New Vendor: Kimberly K./Cinéma Vérité

{Danielle Davis Photography}

Happy Thursday friends! Most you know that on occasion I like to partake in wedding videography. When I started my business I was in Arkansas but we quickly moved to Texas putting a wrench in my plans. I have loved growing and being a part of Texas weddings but I get quite a few email inquires asking about a vigeographer in Arkansas. Meet Kimberly Killingsworth of Kimberly K./Cinéma Vérité.

When Kim and I first started chatting business I didn't realize how much we have in common. We actually went to the same high school and you will see just how much she loves movies too. Kim is so nice y'all! I mean really nice. Even more so, she is talented. Her movies are crisp, beautiful, creative and evoke so much emotion. While watching her videos I cried even though I didn't know the couples in her film. (Crying is not a good look for me. Ha!) She is my recommendation to any brides in Arkansas (take note sorority sisters). I am sure she would love to travel too!

I am excited to show you her portfolio and let you get to know her a bit better. Lovely readers, she is going to do big things!

1. Give us a little background about you and your family.

I am originally from El Dorado, AR. I now live with my two adorable children in Little Rock. We love to eat cupcakes, have living room dance parties, and make little movies together.

2. How did you get started with wedding videography?

I go to the movies once a week. Yes, it's true. It's such a beautiful way of story telling, and it's always been my dream to tell stories in that way too. A dear friend of mine is a wedding photographer. I loved the flexibility of her job, to still be able to spend time with her family, but she also has such a wonderful creative outlet and meets such wonderful people. I knew that modern film making had not really hit weddings as much as modern photography had, but I thought I would give it a try! I started with one of my oldest friends wedding, just for fun, and I haven't stopped since! I love it!

3. What is your favorite part of your job?

This is a hard question! I love my job because it combines all of my favorite things in life. Meeting new people, making movies, finding new music, design, and eating cake!

4. What do you hope to offer brides and other clients?

Although each couple has their own unique story, each wedding consists of the same basic ingredients; getting ready, ceremony, cutting the cake, so my goal is to makes sure that all of the other ingredients of their day are more prevalent than anything else. Their love story and their relationships with all of their important guests. That's why I like to get to know my bride and groom before the big wedding day and make sure that I can make their film portray their personalities as well as I can. I also do an interview with each bride and groom, that is featured on their DVD.

5. Tell us a few things about yourself!

A few fun things about myself? Well, before I was a wedding videographer, I had quite a few other jobs. I worked at a bridal/tux shop, which has actually helped out a little bit! I worked at Victoria's Secret, which hasn't helped out much at all. I was also a radio DJ, a janitor, substitute teacher, party planner and I even had my own scrapbook business. I've finally found the perfect job, for me, and I am glad all of those days are behind me! Ha!
And now I get to show off her amazing work. She is so good y'all! Make sure that you stop by her Facebook page or drop her a little email. Brides, she is a must have vendor.

She also does fun family films which I think is brilliant. From bride to baby, she can be your videographer along the way.

Honesty About Dress Shopping

Hi all! Tuesday is already here. I decided that it was time for one of those really honest posts. Let's not waste any time and dive right in.

How cute is she? Boho, you are the best. I figured that we should talk a bit about dress shopping aka the day every girl dreams of. I can remember tagging along to many dress shopping adventures with my friends. I just knew that when my day came I would wear a sweetheart neckline, capped sleeve, flowing gown based on all my "experience." When it was finally my time, I stuck with those style gowns. Guess what? They were a bust. What I thought was going to be my wedding dress style was completely off.

I also tried on lots of other dresses. And by a lot, I mean a lot. When I finally found my forever wedding gown, I did not get immediate butterflies. Gasp! I know but I told you I was honestly sharing today. I didn't cry. I didn't jump up and down. I didn't even know 100% it was the dress. I did like it a lot. I tried on a few others but kept coming back to this dress. I tried it on again, did a few laps and stared at myself in the mirror for a long time. After a few moments, I started to get excited! I did start to picture myself walking down the isle to Rusty in this dress. I added in a flower to my hair. I took a few pictures to see what it looked like on camera. I did a little dancing. Eventually I knew that this dress was for me. I was over the moon. More importantly, I came in on budget, almost to the dollar on budget.

Everyone was thrilled to have been a part of my dress finding trip! We all headed to the manager's office to pay for the dress. Instantly my emotions changed. I am lucky. I have a mother who would do anything for her daughter. She is the best but seeing my mom pay so much money for a dress made me a little panicked. I knew that I really, really loved my dress but spending so much money on it almost seemed silly or wasteful. Sometimes it is hard to remember that you deserve a nice treat even if you only wear it one day. Of course I did not express this to my mom. The lady started saying things like no returns and final transaction. I was worried. I was a big ball of emotions. I loved my dress but thought that money could go to something else. I felt guilty.

The entire drive home I was silent. I can remember my mother-in-law asking me if everything was okay. I felt really selfish. We had budgeted a set amount for my dress and we successfully stuck to it. I had the shoes, accessories and one stunning dress. Over the next few days, the dress hung in my room. I didn't open the bag or even talk about it much to my girlfriends. What if I just went with everyone else's emotions? Did I really love it? I second guessed everything. A few weeks after purchasing my gown, I decided to open the bag and take a peek at it. When I did, all the goodness came rushing back to me. I tried it on again. Putting on that dress made me so aware that I had made the perfect choice. This dress was meant for me and the feelings of dread for spending money on it melted away. You see everyone else was so happy for me but I had to get over a few things first.

Does this happen to all brides? Probably not but it will happen to some. Dress shopping equals pressure. Guess what? You may not find the dress on the 1st trip or the 4th. That is okay. Your dress in your price range and style is out there and waiting for you. I can guarantee you will find it. You will also get excited about it! Dress shopping takes patience and a level head. It is fun but do not ever forget what the entire shopping experience is about. You are marrying your love and that in itself is the amazing part.

I did come up with a few things I wanted to pass along. I know that all the tips will not apply to each bride but I figure why not share? If I can help anyone, I want to.

1. Take people who offer excellent incentive. Having a handful of honest friends and family members is helpful. Take guests who are not going to dislike or even love every dress. You need honest friends who can aid in making your overall experience exciting!

2. Research. Cut out pictures. Tear out magazine inserts. Pin away. Find gowns that are in your price range and location. Take it all with you. You may stray from your pictures but it is a place to start when pulling gowns.

3. Stay true to your style, personally and with the wedding. A long sheer sleeve gown like Kate Middleton just doesn't fit a beach wedding. Make sure your dress compliments your personality. Your dress should also coordinate with your wedding style, theme and season.

4. Relax. The more stress that you add, the harder and longer the day can become. Bring champagne. Bring cupcakes. Bring your happy gal pants (No eye rolls) and remember to breath.

5. Take your pick. You honestly cannot rule out a style until you try it on. If you thought you would wear a fit and flare gown but the style is not looking great on you then try new styles. I took the time to try every style and I am so glad that I did. Another thing is pick out gowns you like. I let others pick the dresses and never looked. The third store that I visited, I finally went around and selected gowns that I loved. Between everyone else, I tried on about 15 gowns. Towards the end of my appointment I went and picked 4 gowns. The dress for me was in that group of 4. It may sound silly but sometimes you get overwhelmed and excited that you forget to pick what catches your eye.

6. It can wait. This is the case for a majority of women (I know not all) but you can think about it. Just because you love a dress doesn't mean you have to get it right then. Do remember that some gowns take a while to order. You are allowed to think about your favorites. I promise. There is no written rule that says you have to buy right away. Take time to process your decision. If it is meant to be, the dress will be yours no matter a few hours or a couple of days.

7. Add accessories. Yes, you may not know exactly what bangles you may add but incorporate a veil or jewels. It helps you see the bigger picture. It also gives you ideas for what you like and do not like when it comes to adding trinkets to your wedding day outfit.  Adding accessories let's you experience the total bridal feel.

8. Butterflies may not happen instantly. Like I said already, give yourself time. Try on a few other dresses. Walk around in your gown. Sit and talk in your dress. Take pictures in your dress. I promise you that the butterflies and excitement will come. It just may take a bit.

9. Feel pretty. So important. So crucial. So deserving.

Remember to keep in mind the whole reason for marriage and wedding. A pretty dress is not worth frustration or tears. Your ideal dress exists and you will find it, no matter what! I believe it. Happy Tuesday loves!

New Vendor: Crafted Locally

Good Monday morning friends! The weekend is gone but I have a fun post for you today. Hey, I try to always brighten your day. :)

Today we are featuring a new vendor who I am very excited to share with you. Technically she is not new at what she does but she is new to Lovebird Productions readers. Say "Hi" to Debora Griffin of Crafted Locally.

I should technically call her Mrs. Debora because she was the first one to ever give me a job. I babysat her two beautiful girls back when I was in high school. Her oldest daughter is going into her senior year of high school which means I am old. Mrs. Debora is one of my favorite people. She has a true talent for taken something that appears broken and making it into something new! She crafts gorgeous jewelry and makes fresh breads and laundry detergent. Her shop Crafted Locally has no two set of earrings alike. Each woman gets something that is personalized for them. What a special treat! Now it is time for you to get to know Debora a bit more...

1. Give us a little background about you and your family.

I have a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and worked many years as a stock broker. I married late in life (31 yrs old) and had children when I was even older (38). My husband and I are both from South Arkansas and have settled here to raise our family. My two daughters are 13 and 16 now and keep us running with their many school activities. We also like animals. We have two cats, one dog and two guinea pigs!

2. How did you get started in crafting jewelry?

I got started when the girls and I decided to make book marks similar to ones we saw in a large chain book store. We looked at theirs and decided with a few beads and a few tools, we could make those too. We did, but then the girls moved on to their next interest and we had a bunch of beads left over. I saw a short tutorial on line about making earrings and when I tried a few I FELL IN LOVE with making my own. I love earrings and have more pairs than I care to count.

3. What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is making the earrings. Browsing all the bead choices and combining materials to create unique, one of a kind, handmade earrings plus learning new skills to keep the work fresh is fun. Currently I’m learning how to make wire weaved flower earrings and pendants. I particularly like when customers have broken jewelry they want to try to re-cycle so as to not be wasteful, or we exchange some of my already created pieces for their pieces…everybody wins. I get “new” unique pieces to work with and they don’t have to pay for an equivalent amount of jewelry already made!!

4. What do you hope to offer brides?

I offer unique, affordable, handmade jewelry to dress up or down any outfit. The range of styles - from delicate and graceful to fun and funky – guarantees there is something for everyone. I use broken jewelry along with new pieces and re-cycle what I can to create one of a kind pieces.

I have also done custom jewelry for two weddings that was a GREAT deal of fun. Designing with a bride for her special day fulfilled a place in me to make her day all she wanted. From the bride’s earrings down to the flower girl’s little bracelets, everyone in the wedding party had a beautiful handmade piece of jewelry designed and selected especially for her.

5. Tell us a few fun things about yourselves!

I love making earrings, hate housework & am learning to cook at 50+ some odd years. I love my husband more and more each year and look forward to the day it will be just us in the house again.

I did discover in the last few years that I really only like learning “something” until I do it well then I’m ready to move on and learn “something” new. That’s one of the reasons why all my jewelry will be unique pieces because I don’t like to repeat my work.

Now it is time for you to go visit Debora's Pinterest, Etsy shop and Facebook. I also wanted to show you a few more treats made by Crafted Locally!

Don't you just love the owls? Happy Monday folks! Make sure to leave a comment for Debora below. See you soon!

Send Them Off Snack Happy

Happy Monday Lovebirds! Can you believe the weekend is over? On with our day friends! Each reception is full of dancing, smiles, yummy dinner and cake. For most guests you have dinner and cake then dance and drink the remainder of the night. By the time the bride and groom are ready to make their big exit, your tummy is growling and you would love to make a drive thru at your favorite but terrible fast food joint.

At a wedding I attended this summer, the bride had planned to serve late night snacks to guests. Not only do tasty snacks help wind the night down but it may help those guests who need a little food to conquer their beer belly. I couldn't believe that I had never thought about this idea but I thought it was brilliant! After a full night most people want/love snacks. You can do healthy choices with a mix of comfort foods. The wedding I attended the bride had larger versions of pigs in a blanket and boy did they go fast. Guests were popping those things like tic tacs. I couldn't help but notice how happy the guests were to have a send off snack but more importantly I was impressed with the brides attention to all details. Even snacks.

Today I gathered a simple recipe that would be a hit with guests. Remember these snacks can be any food you want! I love the idea of fun finger foods like cheese and crackers with a cupcake liner full of mixed nuts. To indulge a bit more I found this yummy recipe for caramel popcorn:

Warning: This post may make you hungry or stray from healthy eating habits. Not my intention. Scouts honor! Doesn't this look yummy? It is very easy to make. Here is what you need for a serving size of 50 people (make it scale to your guest size):

Ingredients

2-1/2 cups butter
5 cups brown sugar
1-1/4 cups corn syrup
2-1/2 teaspoons salt
1-1/4 teaspoons baking soda
2-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
50 cups popped popcorn

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (95 degrees C). Place popcorn in a very large bowl.

2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil without stirring 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in soda and vanilla. Pour in a thin stream over popcorn, stirring to coat.

3. Place in two large shallow baking dishes and bake in preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool completely before breaking into pieces.

How simple is that? This treat is perfect for guests. It is the final detail to an amazing wedding day. I got this recipe at All Recipes which is one of my favorite sites because you are able to type in the amount of people you need to feed and they convert everything for you. You can find more on this recipe here. You can also find cute red and white stripped popcorn bags here for just $8 for 50 bags. What a steal!

A few other treats that would be a hit: mini pancakes, small bowls of mac and cheese, blueberry muffins, brownies, fruit tray, chicken strips, veggies with dip, pizza cups and flat bread sandwiches. Find your favorite treat and serve it to your guests. It is the cherry on top of the already stunning sundae!

Message in a Jar

I love drawing ideas from Pinterest. I need to use it more but I slowly find myself staying on it for hours at a time. It is addicting!

Today I found this fun idea for your guests to participate in and you to enjoy later. All you need is a big mason jar, pen and paper. Have guests write you a little note. It can be advice on marriage, their favorite memory of you both as a couple or something you should try as a new couple. Just think how fun it will be to read these when you get back from your honeymoon or read them celebrate your one year anniversary by reading these! I love this idea and keepsake!

Have a great Tuesday Lovebirds!

Stamp It To Me

Good afternoon and Happy Tuesday! I can't believe Tuesday is already here. I have been on a mini vacay and was in various airports all day yesterday. Side note: Southwest did not pay me to say this. I arrived at the Indy airport V-E-R-Y early. My best friend and her husband who I was staying with left at 6 am for Boston. I rode with them considering they were my only transportation. I got to the ticket counter and they saw my ticket. I was scheduled to leave Indy at 6 pm and not getting home until midnight. Southwest said that will not due and bumped me to earlier flights and now I will be getting home at 6 pm. Did I mention they did this for free? They are stunning and the best airline around!

Now onto weddings, weddings, weddings. One simple and affordable trend that I am loving are stamps! Using a rubber stamp is fun because you can personalize your stamp. There are a few ways that I am seeing this be used. Here are a few examples of stamps used throughout your wedding planning:

1. Decorations. Use a stamp to decorate your ceremony and reception. Whether you use stamps on your escort cards or your dessert table, a fun stamp is creative and adds a touch of love to your big day.

2. Save the Dates. I love this idea from Martha Stewart! But who doesn't love Martha? This postcard was printed and the dates were added. On the opposite side is the couples pictures

3. Thank you Notes. I L-O-V-E this idea because let's be honest, writing thank you notes is not that fun. This stamp would allow you to stamp a blank card and sign your name. Done! You can find more stamp options that you can personalize on Etsy by clicking here.

A Box of Memories

A few months ago, I suggested using shadowbox frames for storing your wedding keepsakes here. Well, I finally took the time to scope out the perfect shadowbox frame from Target to place our engagement, wedding and honeymoon memorabilia in. The frame cost me just $10. Steal! Twenty minutes after opening the frame, I got warm fuzzies looking at the finished product.

For now the frame is sitting on our buffet table until I can find the perfect place for it. In the frame I placed the cork from our champagne bottle, our rehearsal dinner invitation, our wedding invitation, the room keys to our honeymoon suite and rooms at Lake DeGray (where we were married), our newspaper clipping announcing our October wedding, our cookie cutter wedding favor and seashells from our honeymoon! It makes me smile every time I pass it. Do you have any

Around the Clock

Last week I posted on basic etiquette for bridal showers (viewable here). The joy of bridal showers is you never have to repeat a theme. There are so many themes to choose from and tailor to your bride. I do encourage before throwing a bridal shower you check with the bride as to what she needs. If she needs the overall basics a shower listing her registries is key. If she is in need of funds for the honeymoon, throw a honeymoon themed shower that allows guests to provide money or excursions for the couple to enjoy.

Concept: I saw this idea for a shower and loved it! It is called Around the Clock. This shower theme highlights different times of the day. It may sound odd but let me explain! The hostesses of the shower will assign a time on each invitation. For example, if I get the time 8 a.m. I might bring a waffle maker or a subscription to the newspaper. Another fun time would be 1 a.m. I think I would bring a do not disturb sign for the bedroom door or even candles and massage oils. Hey...what did you expect? You can also make descriptive times on the invitation for guests like game time, cooking time or breakfast time. The time helps guests bring a specific gift for the bride and also helps on cutting down on the bride getting too many coffee pots (one of my best friends got 3 at one shower) or toasters. Guests get to be creative and the theme allows everyone to enjoy themselves!

Centerpieces: Did I mention I was going to help you with this idea as much as possible? I love you guys! A fun centerpiece would be to decorate each table with various flowers. For one table you can use wildflowers because wildflowers are what the bride would bring home when she was little after a long day of playing outside. You can decorate another table with flowers that the bride received every year for making the honor role. You can also use flowers the bride's fiancé always brings her. With each table, make a simple note to display on the table explaining the meaning of each flower.

Another idea is to use pictures of the bride growing up. Each table can have a picture of a different age of the bride. This represents the progression of the bride's life. You can also display a cute note about what age the bride is, her favorite things at that age and what she was always busy doing. For example, if there was a picture of me at age 10, the card would say Katie at age 10. She enjoyed riding her bike, playing Barbie's and dressing up in her Grandmother's high heels. Her favorite foods were Mac and Cheese plus Flintstones Push Pops (Remember how good those things were?)

You can always decorate with cute clocks like alarm clocks or fun wall clocks!

Menu: The menu can be so fun! I would suggest serving foods for various times of the day. Have an area for breakfast items like crepes and waffles that guests can top with their favorite toppings. You can also have homemade pizzas to represent dinner and small sandwiches and fruit for lunchtime. Don't forget a yummy cake! The cake could say things like: Wishing You the Time of Your Life or We Love You Today, Tomorrow, and Always.

Games: You can always tailor a shower game to the shower theme or pick one you have played before. I enjoy shower games because depending on your group of people it allows guests to loosen up! I like a good mad lib. I attended a wedding this past year were guests filled out a mad lib and left it for the bride and groom to read later. What a fun keepsake! Have your maid of honor right down the story of how you met your groom. Take out a handful of keywords and asks guests to fill in a blank with an adjective, verb or noun. Each guests gets to add a word! Read the story back out loud and let your guests have a good laugh! This is a fun keepsake for the bride and groom. You could even bring a frame to frame it for her to take home.

Favors: Favors are probably my favorite thing about each shower I attend! For Around the Clock, you can give guests kitchen timers or yummy clock cookies. My friend Lacye of Lacye's Cakery and Cookies is wonderful! You check out her blog here and her Facebook here. She does it all and it tastes great!

Remember that you are free to make the shower just how you like it. Honor your bride and make sure your guests enjoy themselves!

Engagement Session: Cooking in the Kitchen

Engagement pictures are your way of announcing your upcoming wedding to friends and family. These pictures can be simple or you can choose a theme. I saw this kitchen inspired engagement session on Lovely Little Details and fell in love. I love the idea of cooking in the kitchen while showcasing your love for one another. This idea has the old charm feel of the white picketed fence and the suburbs.

This inspires me to cook up something in the kitchen for my sweetheart. Check out this cute idea and brainstorm ideas for your engagement shoot:

I love these photos so much! This couple is so creative and these photos set the tone for their wedding. What a lovely couple!

Be blessed Lovebirds!

Wedding Keepsakes

I can remember returning from our honeymoon and unloading all of the wedding things out of the car. We had so many things from the wedding I didn't know where to begin organizing.  We had extra programs, napkins, bows and little knick knacks. As I begin to organize, I realized that I needed to keep one of everything.  Yes, I threw things away.  It was hard but I didn't need 65 programs from our wedding. I came across a few good ideas to help me display our wedding keepsakes and get things organized.

One of my favorite blogs, Young House Love (disclaimer: once you start reading, you will be hooked!), had a brilliant idea of using a shadow box.

I love how they used their napkin, photo strips from their photo booth, their invitation, a photo of their gorgeous backyard reception and a few other favorites from their big day.  Just think of the cute things you could place in your shadow box!  You could even press a pretty flower from your bouquet or include your marriage license.

From our honeymoon, I brought home a few shells, our place tickets, a handful of photos and our hotel room key.  While I used some of the shells to decorate around our house, I wanted to keep the honeymoon momentos together.  Here is another fabulous idea from Young House Love:

I love how each time you pass your shadow box or jar of keepsakes you can smile and remember that time in your life. It also allows you to downsize any extras that you may have and keep just what you need.  For more on these great ideas visit here and here.

I hope you are all having a fabulous day Lovebirds!
