Katie Farrin: Lemon & Purple Rustic North Carolina Wedding

Today's wedding is all about the inspiration. Rachel and Dylan threw the ultimate Southern wedding. From the pastel print table numbers and unique centerpieces with lemon slices to the floral altar and gorgeous, gorgeous bride, this wedding is pretty. All around pretty. The lovely images by Melissa Stallings Photography accurately capture the stunning details and the sweet couple. While most brides throw in whole fruit into a centerpiece, Rachel sliced lemons to line her bouquet holders. Everything about today's couple and wedding make me happy. I mean really happy and I thank my lucky stars that I get to share vendors, couples and weddings like these!

From the moment I met this couple, I knew they exuded a certain air about them that was unique. Rachel has the most astounding way with words. She was so organized and precise throughout the wedding planning, which in itself was fantastic! But then you get her in front of a camera and BOOM! She just makes you feel like you’ve stepped back into another dimension, another time on earth. She’s got this 1920's poise about her that is not found in just everyone. And then you pair that handsome groom next to her and you can almost see fireworks going off in the distance (and out of the top of my camera too!). Rachel + Dylan were married on September 14th, 2012 at the fabulous downtown Wilmington, NC venue 128 South. and stylized/curated by Tamara Wade of Unforgettable Events." I loved working with the historic downtown Wilmington streets for their portraits and all the lovely vintage-chic details she incorporated on her wedding day!

I wanted to capture that feeling that you have when you’re sitting (preferably in a rocking chair or porch swing) in one of your favorite outdoor spaces in the late summer afternoon, watching the birds and squirrels and listening to chatter of nature. You know that warm, buttery, “this is the stuff life is made of” feeling when the wind stirs the hair off your shoulders and you end up contemplating a nap? I don’t associate those quiet moments with weddings, but they are some of my most peaceful, treasured moments; those in which I never fail to be reminded that being alive and enjoying what you have is really special. I have a hard time slowing down and appreciating the present, but in a setting like that, I always remember to stop and breathe, and smile. That is the atmosphere I wanted to create for our wedding. To get there, I looked at a lot of wedding magazines and web sites. I’m a country girl, and I’m a big fan of deconstructed, romantic looks, so I knew off the bat that a slick, chic, modern wedding was not for us, even though I think they are beautiful and classy. Once I had “rustic” in my mind, I let my imagination wander and noted little details of this and that which I admired from other weddings and events. It worked well for us both because Dylan and I really enjoy the outdoors and spreading a blanket in the backyard on a pretty afternoon.
