Happy Thursday friends! I hope that you are enjoying your day. Guess what? It is almost the weekend. I bet you guessed right. Ha!
Welcome back to Q & A Thursday. Hooray! I can feel your enthusiasm. It is so overwhelming. Those last two sentences were said in my sarcastic voice. Today's question is two fold.
Q. How did you know that you wanted to blog and how can I get started? Any tips?
A. When I first thought about Lovebird Productions, my immediate thought was video. Blogging kind of came as an after thought. I just realized that I have been a part of so many lovely weddings and have experienced planning my own that I wanted an outlet to not only help brides with videography but also when it came time to plan their big day.
I had a personal blog but didn't write that often. I would say that our life is really not that interesting. I did know that I wanted to create a blog and website in one. It would allow me to show brides more of my fun side with bit of my professional side. It is the perfect mix for me.
Now I would not say that I am a personal blogger by any means. Yes, I blog daily. Yes, I spend a lot of time blogging. Yes, I interact with other bloggers but I am still a little blog compared to most. Regardless of my size, a year and a few months of blogging has taught me a lot. Here are a few tips for if you want to blog too. Let's go:
1. Pick a topic you love. Weddings are just my thing. I seriously cannot get enough of writing, dreaming, viewing and sighing over weddings. If you plan on writing 4-5 times a week, you need a topic that will constantly peek your interest. It may sound silly but it does become a part of you.
2. Be regular. Updating your blog 2-3 times a week is not going to bring in new readers, if that is one of your goals. Make sure you are updating regularly and interacting with your readers regardless of the numbers.
3. Current and fun content is a must. Keep it fun and fresh!
4. Social media is the best! Not only does it help spread the word about your blog or business but it connects you with so many amazing people. It may sound weird and I know many will not understand but I have met some of the dearest friends online, Kiss My Tulle and Tabibi Design. Creative Studio just to name a few. Push your content out to others on Twitter and Facebook but don't forget to show your non-blogger side too. I really do adore social media!
5. Be you, always. Finding your voice is a must. Readers know what to expect each time that they visit your blog. It took me a while to find my voice but I really feel sound with my blog now.
6. Comment away. Comment on other blogs. It helps pull new readers to your site plus let's you show other bloggers you care. Also, don't be afraid to comment on readers who may leave a note on your post. It is a must!
7. Develop thick skin. It can be tough putting yourself out there. Just a few days ago I received an ugly message via Facebook. Don't worry with responding. People are always going to have something to say. How you handle yourself and react to those people is truly what shows your character. For every rude person there are 15 more building you back up.
8. It is okay to take a day off. This one is hard for me but I am learning this slowly. Yes, I want to post every day but sometimes you just need a day to be away. That is okay. I promise.
9. Have fun! Blogging is a must for my every day life now. I really do feel lost if I cannot get the words out of my head and onto the screen. I can't imagine life without this blog or the kind people who I have met. I am lucky!
I hope these tips help if you are deciding whether to start a blog or not. Regardless, I would love to read it so don't forget to post it below or send me an email with your blog address. Good luck and happy Thursday loves!
