I know. Clever title but I think every girl ever planning on getting married or planning their wedding now needs to read Sarah's advice. You met Sarah yesterday when I introduced you to her and her fiance, Brady.
Before we get to her advice, let's read more about our sweet couple.
1. Tell me how you two met.
Brady and I met the FIRST time on a canoeing trip on the Buffalo River. He was down from Chiropractic school and I was actually with my boyfriend at the time. Sadly enough, we didn’t even talk and I was fighting with the current guy the whole time. All of the guys on the trip actually thought I was a huge brat, only to find out later that the current guy was a huge schmuck. Ha.
2. How was your first date? What did you do?
Our first “date” was to a concert, “North Mississippi Allstars”. We were with Ginger and Anthony Woodall who we can thank for getting us together at their tailgate (LSU- Arkansas game 2009).
3. Favorite memory as a couple.
When Brady lived in St. Louis for chiropractic school, I lived 6 hours away in Oxford, MS for college. We would switch off weekends to visit each other but it seemed like the weekends were never just about us because of friends wanting to see Brady and vice versa. One weekend I drove up to St. Louis not letting any of my friends know and he didn’t tell any of his (kind of reckless and worrisome thinking back on it). We just hung out in his apartment on his super comfy couch watching the Planet Earth series and drinking wine. We had a great weekend getting to know each other better and just enjoying each other’s company.
4. How did he propose?
Brady and I love the outdoors and hiking! We were spending the weekend at his parent’s lake house on the Greers Ferry Lake for my “birthday weekend”. My birthday was actually the weekend after but we had a wedding to go to and wanted to get all of our friends together and a birthday is always a great excuse! Friday night, my sister and her husband were supposed to be there but John “had to work late”. Josh and Cheryl couldn’t make it that night either because Cheryl had an “Arbonne party”. Same goes for the rest of the group. Saturday morning Brady had planned on us going on a hike. It was the hottest weekend of the summer!!!! I told him if it hit 85 degrees by 9 am that I wasn’t going; it was 83. So we hiked up Sugarloaf Mountain and at the top, after Brady basically jogged up, he knelt down on one knee and proposed. He had even brought champagne! When we got back from our hike our parents, friends, and family were all there waiting on us to arrive!! Brady had even gotten my BEST friends from Ole Miss to come down and meet us! What a surprise when they walked in the door!
5. Details about your wedding. Date, color scheme, theme, location…
We are getting married May 14, 2011 in Fayetteville Arkansas. The Ceremony will take place in Pratt Place Barn, followed by dinner in the Inn, and then back to the barn for dessert and dancing. We are doing bright colors, lots of yellows, blush tones, and hints of raspberry and chartreuse. The flowers are one of my favorite details and we will have lots of peonies and garden roses! Super excited!
(Side note: Sarah is a fabulous baker and designer. You can check out her decorating skills, craft expertise and bakery here.)
And lastly, Sarah's advice:
My first tagline of advice is this: “At the end of the day if you and your groom are happily married, all has gone okay”. Think about it though- the only reason for any of this whole hooplah is our love for each other. If at the end of the weekend we are married and had a great time- the whole thing was a success!
Also- Don’t let ANYONE put extra stress on you. As a bride you are already stressed out enough. I keep telling people, “If I’m not stressed about it, then maybe it’s not worth stressing over”. The Bride is always going to look out for any problems, look out for the details, and know if everything is running smoothly. If you aren’t stressed about some little thing, then no one should be!
And lastly- find a best friend or if you are lucky enough to have a sister, to vent to. You need her. She will be your sounding board and your emotional sponge. She will earn that best friend badge and be your right hand man (woman) throughout the whole process, and her love is invaluable in times like these! God has blessed me with a whole crew of woman surrounding me but my sister has been my rock! Thank God for friends and a patient, loving fiancé!
Isn't she brilliant? I wish I was this calm and cool while planning! I know I have said this prior but I am so thrilled to be apart of their wedding. It is going to be a blast and I can't wait to show all of you lovebirds the final product.
P.s. - If you book with Lovebird Productions you can be featured on here. Hey, a little self promotion for an upcoming bride never hurt. You deserve to be featured!
Until tomorrow...
